I totally fixed my air conditioner.

My incredibly ghetto fabulous A/C unit broke right at the start of the heatwave, and I decided yet again that I could fix it all by myself. A few google query’s later and I decided that the motor was broken.

We ordered a new one, it came in yesterday, and after figuring out some hardware issues-the lid of my air conditioner is homemade-managed to rig it all up. It works great and my home is no longer a living hell.

I’m going to post about BEA, I swear!

I really am, just not yet. I expect that to be a rambling, disjointed, actually have to edit it sort of piece, so for the time being, a few short updates.

I miss New York. A lot.

I thought it would be cool, but it was honestly more than that, I really felt a sense of belonging there that I usually don’t get around strangers. Not a single person was rude about my appearance the entire trip. Not one.

LA Noire is a great, great game, it is cutting into writing time. and I don’t care. I’m a detective, this is important work.

Amazon Publishing is an epic force, and the best part is, not a single asshole on the team. The whole trip I kept waiting for someone to be a dick or stand offish or something, but no dice. They were all just incredibly fun, caring people.

There was one author who got away with a bit of bad form, perhaps I’ll discuss this further in my actual BEA post…

BEA on Monday!

Well I leave for New York perilously early Morning, and I cannot wait! I will be at Fordham University at 3:00 Monday afternoon to do a Nickel Plated signing, will be attending the Amazon party that evening, and will be at BEA most of Tuesday. My Tuesday plans involve lurking around the Amazon booth, stalking authors I want to meet, and just generally being overwhelmed. I’m hoping my appearance is not too over the top for the environment.

ATTN Evildoers: Yes, I just posted that I’m going to be out of town on the internet, and this is considered bad form. However, breaking into my house to steal all of my rad stuff might not be the best idea. I have a couple of retired neighbors that don’t sleep, and they’re both very heavily armed. So, y’know, keep that in mind. That said, all of my rifles are in the basement with my good TV. I’d start there.

Smoked a cigar yesterday.

A Flying Pig, from Drew Estate, and it was delicious. I knew it would be, because I’ve had one before, but this was a special one.

Not a special blend or limited edition mind you, yet special nonetheless. Up until yesterday, I had two of these cigars, as well as plans to smoke them with a good friend of mine. Now I have one left, and that good friend has been relegated more to the status of someone I felt like I knew but really didn’t. In short, if you’re reading this, and think this person might be you, I smoked your cigar, it was delicious, and I’m glad I didn’t waste it on you. See you around, I guess.

New Blog Coverage

I’m on the thatcovergirl blog today, or at least the cover of Nickel Plated is. Fun article, and it gives some credit to the awesome folks that made the Nickel Plated cover so kick butt.

Laptop Battery Life Dot Com

Hey lap top battery life dot com, FUCK YOU. I’m not sure if any of you assholes know anyone who has been involved in the conflict overseas in any capacity, but having your spammers attempt to post crap on here, and I’m sure any blog that mentioned the death of Bin Laden, is just as low as it gets.

Modern day carpet bagging, nothing more, nothing less.

You might have heard about this…

So DEVGRU (Navy Seal Team Six) killed Osama Bin Laden, and I say hats off, boys. As much issue as I’ve had with our overseas exploits over the past few years-trust me, working in a tattoo shop when there’s a war on is a rough job, unless you like to cry-this is a wonderful thing. I’m hoping against hope that the whole thing can be taken at face value, and I feel confident that it can be.

I don’t speak for anyone but myself, but if there was ever a time to reminisce about September 11th, 2001, today is the day. Some of our bad dudes, hard men who who walk into danger so that we can sleep in warm beds, did the world a solid yesterday.

As my good friend Tracy Heath, a former Army Ranger, has said on more than one occasion, if you meet a vetted/enlisted man or woman, just tell them thank you, and make damn sure you mean it.

New short story idea.

I started a new short story today, kind of along the vein of Nickel Plated, but with an adult detective. I’m having fun with it, and though I’m sure it will be a long time until it ever sees the light of day, if it ever does, it’s still a pretty nice time. I think once its done it will be back to editing one longer piece and writing another.

Also, UFC on tonight, should be fun.

Work is destroying me.

And not writing, writing is just fine.

I’ve kind of hit a wall with piercing. This has happened before, and I’ve always bounced back ok, but this time feels different. I’m not sure that this is a passion is gone kind of thing, my passion for modification has been long dead, but I’ve always enjoyed being a gatekeeper for others entering a world of being poked full of holes.

That bit of passion, may just be eking out of me.

Part of it’s a money thing, I’ve been at this for a month shy of fifteen years, and money is still an issue. That’s stupid. Like really stupid.

The big part though is the reward factor. The stupidity of some of my customers, the perverseness of others, it can all just be a bit much.

I’m kind of at an impasse. What does a published author with no college, who is covered in tattoos do for work?

Ugh.

Game of Thrones, rambling

Man, am I bad at updating this thing. I watched Game of Thrones the other afternoon, and it was just as amazing as the books led me to believe it could be. I was really worried that HBO wasn’t going to able to stand up to the quality of the writing, but so far, they’re doing a stellar job. I suppose I shouldn’t be too surprised, but it was pleasant to watch one of the few fantasy series I actually care about not get fumbled.

I’ve been doing some work on my current long fiction project, as well as editing my last long fiction project. I’m not sure which one is more relevant at this point, so I think the goal is just to keep writing, keep editing, and hope that one of these sticks.
